Surf Nite in SLO
For the past five years award-winning Australian cinematographer, Tim Bonython, has followed some of today’s most courageous big wave surfers all over the world, filming them surfing the biggest, baddest waves on the planet in this year’s Surf Nite film, THE BIG WAVE PROJECT. And this will be their North American Premiere!
Sit back and enjoy some jaw-dropping cinematography documenting GIANT WAVES around the world in California, Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti and Europe. The Big Wave Project is one of those surf films you simply need to see on a big screen to appreciate how GIGANTIC the waves really are, and the Fremont Theatre is just the place!
In The Big Wave Project the progression of the skill level of big wave surfing happily collides with the best swell season in 30 years and the narrative is both real and downright terrifying. It includes what has been called “the biggest wave ever attempted” featuring Aaron Gold’s infamous massive paddle-in wave at Jaws, in Hawaii.
Join us for an intense sight and sound experience, a “must see” for surfing enthusiasts of all tastes, generations and walks of life!
Before The Big Wave Project, enjoy THE AGAVE GUN, a 10-minute short featuring Gary Linden, the founder of The Big Wave Tour. Gary is one of the few remaining masters of his craft, still skillfully shaping surfboards by hand. At 68, he still experiments with untested materials, like the wood from agave, the plant tequila is made from. This film takes us through the growth cycle of the agave, the shaping of a board, and the joy of the end product.
The Agave Gun Director Ross Haines and Gary Linden will be in attendance, along with The Big Wave Project Director Tim Bonython, and more special guests will be announced soon! Lobby bar will be open an hour before show time.
See you at Surf Nite!
