Britten's Six Metamorphoses for solo oboe evokes mythical creatures from Ovid's classic poem. Vaughan Williams' sonorous Piano Quintet is little-known to today's audiences as it was embargoed from performances by the composer's family until the 1990s. Closing the program is Dvor k's Viola Quintet\, which he composed after a transformative visit to Iowa during which he was inspired by Native and African American musical traditions.\n\n \n\nSponsored by Sharon Harris and Dennis Schneider.
