Agency Support Letter: Chimney Rock Road Bridge

Agency Support Letter: Chimney Rock Road Bridge

March 20, 2025

Dear Congressman Panetta,

I am writing to express my support for funding the construction of a permanent and reliable crossing at Chimney Rock Road. The recent collapse of Chimney Rock Road at the crossing of Franklin Creek on Lace Nacimiento has compromised access for 500 residences and the Blue Mountain Minerals Lime Mine, which supplies essential materials to the region's building, construction, agriculture and energy industries.

The Paso Robles and Templeton Chamber of Commerce endorses the urgent need for a permanent and reliable solution for Chimney Rock Road, as it serves as the sole. access point for a significant portion of the community. A single-lane bridge is merely a temporary fix for a long-term problem, increasing the risk of emergency evacuations for those on the west side of the bridge and raising the potential for traffic accidents. We urge you to support the necessary funding for this important project.

The County of San Luis Obispo is designing a permanent bridge and seeking $5 million in funding. As the only access route to the mine and surrounding housing, the temporary one-lane bridge poses a wildfire risk and is vulnerable to damage from heavy truck traffic from the mine. A permanent, two-lane concrete bridge is essential for providing jobs and housing to the west of the roadway collapse, as well as ensuring access for emergency responders and equipment.

Please consider funding this county priority project, which will create long-term, reliable connection for our community.

Sincerely,

Gina Fitzpatrick
CEO/President
Paso Robles and Templeton Chamber of Commerce.
