City of Paso Robles Wins ITE 2024 Unusual Roundabouts Award
Golden Hill/Union Road Roundabout Recognized for Innovation and Impact
The City of Paso Robles is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) 2024 Unusual Roundabouts Award for its innovative design of the Golden Hill/Union Road roundabout. The award, presented as part of ITE’s annual Roundabouts Week celebration, recognizes roundabouts that showcase unique design elements or solve complex transportation challenges.
The Golden Hill/Union Road roundabout stood out due to its distinct approach to addressing high-traffic volumes while maintaining pedestrian safety in a semi-rural area. The roundabout, which features multi-lane entry points, enhanced landscaping, and bike-friendly pathways, has significantly reduced congestion and improved overall safety for both motorists and non-motorists.
"We are honored to receive this prestigious award," said Capital Projects Engineer and roundabout project manager, Ditas Esperanza. "The Golden Hill/Union Road roundabout has proven to be an effective solution to the traffic concerns in this part of the city, and we are thrilled to be recognized by ITE for our innovative approach."
The ITE, a global community of transportation professionals, hosts the Unusual Roundabouts Award annually to highlight the best examples of creative roundabout designs that provide lasting benefits to the community. This award acknowledges the City of Paso Robles' commitment to forward-thinking infrastructure and its ongoing dedication to improving traffic flow and safety throughout the region.
As part of the award recognition, Paso Robles was featured in the ITE Roundabout Committee’s webinar The State of Roundabouts in the US on September 17, 2024, where transportation professionals discussed evolving trends and innovations in roundabout design across the country.
