National Endowment for the Humanities COVID-19 Recovery Funding Available

The National Endowment for the Humanities is announcing new funding opportunities for cultural and educational organizations and professionals recovering from the financial impacts of the pandemic. The American Rescue Plan: Humanities Grantmaking program is an emergency relief program intended to fund grantmaking programs that assist organizations and individuals working in the humanities who have been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic and require support to restore and sustain their core activities. NEH has awarded $28.8 million to 13 grantmaking programs: six programs for individuals and seven programs for organizations. Collectively, these awards will support approximately 145 individuals and as many as 625 organizations.

These Humanities Grantmaking awards are supported by $135 million in supplemental funding allocated to NEH by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. NEH has already distributed $52.6 million of this funding to state and jurisdictional humanities councils to support humanities organizations, programs, and professionals at the local level. NEH also awarded $59 million in emergency relief funds directly to cultural and educational institutions across the country.
