FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Spokes to Gather San Luis Obispo County Nonprofits

for Convene and Connect Symposium November 7

Enhancing Community Impact Through Collaboration Central to Presentation & Panel-Led Discussion

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (October 15, 2024) Spokes, an organization providing resources to support and empower the nonprofit community, invites San Luis Obispo County nonprofit leaders to its Convene and Connect Symposium, November 7, 2024, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The event will be held at the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau, 4875 Morabito Place, San Luis Obispo.

Offered through generous support from the Shanbrom Family Foundation, the Symposium will engage County nonprofit leaders in exploring how collaboration can enhance impact, streamline efforts, and cultivate innovative solutions within our community.

Moderated by Sandi Sigurdson, accomplished nonprofit leader and 2023 San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, the interactive program will include a presentation, panel-led discussion, intimate breakout sessions and networking opportunities.

Spokes CEO and nonprofit expert Dr. Michael Simkins will guide attendees on the various methods of collaboration––while also addressing common barriers expressed by local nonprofit leaders.

Additionally, participants will hear from an esteemed panel of nonprofit executives who have successfully navigated collaborative partnerships in the community, including: Jennifer Adams, CEO of Lumina Alliance; Rita Casaverde, executive director of Diversity Coalition San Luis Obispo County; and Wendy Lewis, CEO of El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO).

Attendees will also have the opportunity to identify and engage with potential collaborative partners in various breakout activities and during a casual beverage and appetizer mixer that will close the event.

“Collaboration can deliver tremendous benefits to our nonprofits, from leveraging resources and pursuing joint funding to increasing service impact and visibility,” said Simkins. “However, local feedback indicates it’s a relatively untapped resource for various reasons. We hope to break down some of the barriers hindering our nonprofits from forming these beneficial partnerships and energize the community about the possibilities.”

Advance registration for the Spokes Convene and Connect Symposium is required. General admission is $60; $30 for Spokes members.
